1. Incorporation

The Institute of Journalists Malaysia is the professional body of journalists in Malaysia It is a tax-exempt non-profit organisation and is incorporated under the Companies Act 1964 as a company limited by guarantee with no share capital.

2. Management

The Board of Governors is made up of 7 to 11 members. They are elected by members at a general meeting and serve a three-year term. They will comprise:

• two members from the press
• two members from broadcasting
• two members from online media
• one member from periodicals, freelance and others

The members elect the Board of Governors. The Board elects its own chairman.

There are no elective positions.

3. Administration

The constitution of the Institute provides for the appointment of a Director of the Institute, either an honorary position or a person employed by the Institute, to manage day-to-day affairs.
